My Battle Story with Ulcerative Colitis

  1. Pre-Battle:

Shortly after graduating university I caught an infection. I had fever and soar throat for weeks and nothing helped. Eventually, I went to a doctor and got prescribed broad spectrum antibiotics (amoxicillin).

I didn’t improve so I got prescribed another round of antibiotics (roxithromycin)…

A few weeks later I got tested and found out it was a viral infection.

Taking antibiotics was completely unnecessary!

  1. Beginning of Combat

A few months after my antibiotics tasting party I was diagnosed with severe Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Ulcerative Colitis, Pancolitis).

The antibiotics completely knocked over my microbiome.

My entire colon was badly swollen and inflamed.

I was running to the bathroom 10 times a day, dropped 10kg (22lbs) of weight (I was already skinny before), had intense pain, lost a lot of blood, cold sweats, heart racing, hair loss, trouble sleeping and severe iron deficiency.

I couldn’t even stand or walk long distances because I was too weak.

My gastroenterologist at the time immediately put me on steroids (Prednisone) and Mesalamine.

At first, the medication worked wonders! Within just 4 days, all my symptoms disappeared.

But when I started to taper, all my symptoms returned.

My doctor suggested I take immunosuppressants or biologics and told me that I would have this disease and be dependent on medication for the rest of my life.

  1. Setting up Defense Systems

I refused further conventional treatment and wanted to try a different path.

I decided to spend a small fortune on naturopaths, healers and tons of supplements.

I tried detoxing, homeopathy, electrolysis therapy, kinesiology and many more.

I meditated on finding my center for so long, my friends thought I had completely lost it.

Looking back, it’s crazy that I tried all of those things but I was really desperate for answers.

I also tried many different diets like carnivore, plant-based, GAPS, SCD, lectin-free, FODMAP and many many more.

Some of these diets gave me short-term relief, but my intestinal bleeding and diarrhea only got worse in the long run.

  1. Going to the mattresses – Declaration of War

I started pouring over studies and research on gut health and nutrition like it was my full-time job.

I visited medical libraries, read scientific studies, watched videos, listened to podcasts and spent hours researching on the internet.

I studied what other people have done to heal themselves naturally and copied what they did. Nothing worked.

I lost my appetite for most foods because everything I ate only made me worse. My family was very worried about me.

At one point I was eating nothing but bone broth and this was when I hit my absolute low point.

I wasn’t capable of anything anymore and I probably should’ve been at the hospital at this point.

But going to the hospital has never crossed my mind for once second. My body was at it’s lowest but my mind was still strong.

And then it suddenly clicked. It was a subtle shift in mindset and a combination of the many things I have tried before but it changed completely how I approached my health.

  1. Recruiting Forces – Call to Arms

I used all my knowledge and experience I gained over the past years and overhauled my entire healing protocol.

It was against everything I have done so far and seen others do before.

I asked two German doctors (I am German) that I trust to help me.

One was a general physician and the other was a renowned professor in gastroenterology.

I presented them my healing concept, how I plan to fix my gut and what I intend to eat.

Out of the many practitioners that I saw, these two doctors were the only ones who believed in my ability to heal through food alone.

They both agreed to support me get better naturally, as long as they could monitor and keep an eye on me during the entire process.

  1. Battle Story

After I went on my new healing protocol, my blood and stool were regularly checked for inflammatory levels, vitamins and many other vitals.

It was remarkable how quickly my body was healing once I was eating and doing the right things.

After just a few weeks, my doctors were astonished at how much I had already improved and encouraged me to keep going!

  1. Winning the Fight

These are outtakes of my laboratory work from when I started healing until no signs of inflammation were present anymore.

In 8 months, my inflammation levels in my colon (calprotectin) went from 1070 to <30

My inflammatory markers in my blood were even more impressive.

In 5 months, my severe inflammatory levels in my blood (CRP) went from 131 to <5.

The graphs show that healing is not linear and the journey for sure wasn’t always easy, but I stayed disciplined and consistent.

  1. Seizing Victory

Today, I remain free from medication. I still get tested regularly but I show no signs of inflammation and I feel healthier, stronger, and more energetic than ever before.

Somehow this disease has turned from the worst thing that ever happened to me to a good thing.

Today, I live an active and healthy life.

I started to help others achieve the same and pass on what I’ve learned.

Supporting others in their healing journey and going through this process with them has become my passion.

I believe improving or even healing through food is possible for all of us no matter how old you are, how long you’ve had the disease and how severe your condition is.

  1. Collaborating with Allies on Conquering Health – Synergizing with Associates

Back when I was very sick I would have given EVERYTHING to be able to talk to someone who has been through it.

So my offer to you is: you are always welcome to send me a message or comment and I will respond as fast and best I can.

In the following threads I will share the knowledge that has helped me heal.

I will share things like:

  • the most important elements to healing
  • why you keep getting worse and no food seems to help
  • what type of foods you should and shouldn’t eat
  • the approach and philosophy to healing
  • how and when to use probiotics (because they are not always helpful!)
  • how to free your gut from inflammation
  • tips on the best supplements for gut health
  • and basically how to kick this thing to the curb for eternity…

I hope you will make good use of the information and make something out of it.
